Shin Splints can be Oh.. so painful - right on the front outside margin of the
calf - often the upper half. Pain felt in this region
is commonly a cramping muscle, but remember, Shin Splints is a term covering
several types of pain ranging from Compartment Syndrome to stress fractures.
Although the Tibialis Anterior is the major offender, other major muscles
may also cause Shin Splints. |

For most people, reducing hyperpronation immediately relieves Shin Splints. The Tibialis Anterior is not intended to be used to brace against hyperpronation, but that is what most people do. The stronger the muscular bracing pattern, the more likely a good case of Shin Splints becomes. By providing correct feedback to the forefoot, using Posture Control Insoles®, the muscular bracing is replaced by proper muscle use to balance the feet.

If you hyperpronate, your arches drop from non-weight bearing (sitting with your feet on the ground) to weight bearing (standing). When your arches drop, your ankles roll in and your heels lean in (evert) as illustrated in the picture. Because most people who hyperpronate try to muscularly compensate for it by using the muscles that cause Shin Splints, even a small amount of hyperpronation can cause pain. |
